We are humbled that these talented ladies have taken time out of their crazy schedules to create this anthology. We are without the appropriate words to relay what it means to us that Keith’s memory and desire that people understand how serious mental illness is, has touched people who didn’t have the pleasure of meeting him.
A personal message from Denise:
Twelve years ago this week a single event forever changed me, forever changed my family, forever changed the course of my life. Twelve years ago I lost my younger brother and only sibling Keith Milano to suicide. Though suicide is a word often whispered, we chose to be open about Keith’s struggle with bipolar disorder.
Over the past decade or so, our family has been blessed to meet so many amazing people; people who have connected with Keith’s story, connected with his smile, connected with our mission to keep his spirit alive as we work to change the dialogue about mental illness.
I am proud to share with you that ten amazing authors who did not have the pleasure of knowing Keith during his life are honoring his memory with the release of NIGHT SHIFT 2.0, an anthology of original words. All proceeds from this anthology will be given to the Keith Milano Memorial Fund at The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
This money will be used to create programs to raise awareness about mental illness and to fund much needed research.
I sit in awe of the legacy Keith’s name has created and of those who donate their time, energy and money to raise awareness about mental illness.
This being National Suicide Prevention Week, our hope is that this anthology and that being open about Keith’s story advances the dialogue about mental illness.
