SynopsisMatthew Doner is starting over. After a five-year prison term that alters every aspect of his life, he receives a bequest from his aunt with the stipulation that he use the money to make things right. Breaking free of the long-standing role he’s played and inspired by the few who support him, he decides to create a safe place where people like him can find purpose and start a new life.

Julian Capeletti likes challenges. He is confident, brash, stubborn, and just what Matt needs. Desperate for work after a downturn of luck, he accepts the job to renovate Matt’s crumbling building.

Over the course of a year, romance simmers between them as they restore the house. But there’s a bigger renovation that must take place in their hearts. To become better men, they need to learn to trust each other even with secrets and painful memories they fear may rip them apart.

ReviewDenise’s 4 STAR Review!!

A Better Man is the debut for author Jaime Reese, one I was impressed with! This book tells the story of Matthew Doner and Julian Capeletti. Matt is starting over after spending 5 years in prison, and no I will not tell you why. You need to read the book to see how Ms. Reese slowly unravels this piece of the story to the reader and more importantly how Matt deals with what becomes a secret he is keeping from Julian.

Julian steps into Matt’s life as a key player in Matt’s dream to give back again. I am not telling what this is either lol, as I truly want the reader to experience this journey first hand. I will say Matt’s reasons for wanting to give back and his commitment to do good truly touched my soul.

Julian enters Matt’s life and becomes integral to making this dream a reality. From their first interaction it becomes clear there is a connection and I loved how Julian knew Matt was not being truthful but went with it. It made for some wonderful interactions.

Matt’s need to keep Julian, to keep it a business relationship, allows a real reason for both men to resist a physical attraction the reader can feel. This denying of the physical leads these men to build such a strong emotional connection, one the reader can feel and that leads to an amazing powerful first encounter as these men channel this desire and layer it with feeling.

As these two men open up about their feelings about each other, they still hide from secrets and their pasts.  The way both slowly allow their walls to crumble and how they in the end reveal all to each other was really well done and make for what I felt was a true connection between these men who now needed each other after living so long needing no one. When these two truly become a couple I loved Matt calling Julian “J” and Julian loving the connection.

Matt’s family who plays a role in this book made for an end that truly warmed my soul. I will not tell you who made the happy play out, who grew a spine and understood that Matt was truly happy but I will say hats off Ms. Reese to character development that made the story work.

I have to say I am very much looking forward to book 2 which will tell Cameron’s story, a man mentioned only briefly in this book but who plays right into Matthew’s desire with Julian by his side.

AboutTheAuthorI get this huge dorky grin on my face when I read some of the comments others have made about A Better Man. The fact that you picked this title in a sea of options is truly appreciated. Thank you so much.

About me… um…
I love the creative process of writing, just not about myself. Fiction is just way more interesting 😀

I seem to have a weakness for broken, misunderstood heroes and feel everyone deserves a chance at love and life.

I’m an avid fan of a happy ending and believe those acquired with a little difficulty are more cherished.
