I want to start by saying I thoroughly enjoyed Black Lies; it was a sit down and get enthralled in the story all day kind of read. I want to also pause and say I did know the plot prior to reading and I truly think that helped me enjoy the story more.

I know that makes me different and odd so I am going to write this review and try to keep as much as possible about the story a secret.

As the female lead, Layana begs in the blurb don’t judge her and I whole heartedly agree with that. As you read Black Lies, keep the title in mind.

Layana has two men in her life Brant and Lee.  Brant is a billionaire who adores her and Lee is a blue collar guy who is brash, direct and sexy as all get up.

One woman and two men, no this is not a menage. It is a powerful story of how lies affect so much and in the end don’t truly help anyone.  No the lies is not the affair; yes I know that sounds odd but trust me at the end of this book it will all make sense.

I will give some of the story away because I have to say the author’s handling of mental illness truly touched me.  Lying about mental illness helps no one, not the patients, not the people who try to love them and  at the some level not the community at large because until we speak of mental illness like we speak of cancer, AIDS or diabetes, the stigma will continue.

OK so back to the story; if you think in the first part of the book that you hate Brant’s Aunt, hold onto your seats because she gets worse, her role in the story not only moved the story along but explains so much about how Brant get to this point in his life.

In the end, the love Brant and Layana show for each other had no bounds. They both at separate times in the book prove for better or worse even before they are married.

Lies can destroy or maybe when you peel away the layers and reveal the truth, the knowing can bond you forever.
