Summary

There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.

Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.

For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.

Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.

Christine’s Review

I am so HAPPY to have received this ARC copy from the author.  The prologue was captivating and had me from the start – what secret is Callie hiding?  What is Kayden’s story?  I enjoyed how this book was told in the POV of both characters.

Callie has come out of her shell a bit since starting college.  She is not as introverted as she once was.    She and her best friend Seth have a list of new things to try each day – things that will take them outside of their comfort zone and allow them to experience life.  When Callie first sees Kayden, he doesn’t recognize her at first but when he realizes who she is, he wants to thank her for saving his life 4 months prior.  Kayden is happy that he is in college – for once, he actually gets to live and enjoy life.  Both main characters including their very close friends are all hiding dark secrets.

Against Callie’s better judgment, she finds herself liking Kayden (despite the fact that he has a witch of a girlfriend!)  They enjoy each other’s company and start opening to each other more and more.  The author writes so descriptively well that I can feel and see for myself that Callie and Kayden have a connection to each other and that despite their best efforts to not fall for each other, they are.

This group of friends in another setting and time would not make for a likely group of friends but we can see that there is a bond between them because of their pasts and everything that they have been through.  Each character faces some kind of insecurity and pain and you can feel every emotion they feel because it is written so well.  I ached for them and wanted to help them get through their troubles.

This book was beautiful and emotional and belongs only to them.  It made me sad, emotional, and happy – I experienced it all.  I CAN’T believe how it ended and just wanted to know more!  I think Jessica Sorensen is is an AMAZING author and I can not wait until her next book about this couple and will definitely read her other books because I am sure that they are GREAT just as this one is.  I highly recommend The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden.  You will enjoy experiencing the many ups and downs of this beautifully written book.  Well done!

I just finished Callie and Kayden’s story. It’s a sad one. What an open ending. I guess we’ll get closure in the next book. Any plans for that? Thx for an enjoyable read.
