A scene from when Katia and Mathias first meet!
“What’s your name?” he asked.
“Olivia,” I replied quickly. I liked the name. It sounded American and beautiful, like I was a sophisticated female that has the world at her fingertips, not a girl that had no life outside of music.
He looked me up and down with sharp eyes and when his eyes landed on my face, they narrowed a fraction.
Then he shifted in his seat and I saw more of his body. He was huge. Huge arms, shoulders. Long legs that seem to go on forever. “How old are you, Olivia?” he asked deeply.
I know what I looked like to him. Small and delicate. I barely looked nineteen. But my chin jutted out proudly despite the truth. “I’m twenty-four.”
There’s no way he’s going to believe me. I could see it in those dangerous, gray eyes that he was trying to find a way to call me out. After a few seconds, he smirked and smashed his cigarette in the ashtray. He scrutinized me thoughtfully. I leaned against the bar and scooted closer to him, hoping that my body language made me look bold.
For a second, my conscience warned me not to be bold with him. I was walking into the lion’s den with this one. His eyes were predatory, his body too large. At any second he could eat me up.
“You know my name, tell me yours,” I demanded.
He lifted a single brow, and slowly, his lips curved up. “Mathias.”
Mathias. I liked it. The name is different and there’s nothing I like more than different.
Placing my drink on the bar, I moved closer, pretending to know what I’m getting myself into. “ How old are you?” I finally asked.
He stood slowly. And when he was at his full height I pursued his body slowly. Narrow waist, wide shoulders. He crossed his arms and it made the sleeves of his dark blue dress shirt strain over his biceps.
I liked. A lot.
My smile was purely female as I tilted my head back until it couldn’t go any further.
“I’m twenty-eight little Olivia.”
That deep voice thrilled me. It made my hands shake and body instantly become aroused. Mathias was trouble. Trouble that could crush me with one hand, but I stayed perfectly still. I had never wanted to be in one place more in my entire life.
“I’m too old for you,” Mathias said.
For Katarina he was. But for twenty-four Olivia he was completely available. I slid closer to him, noticing just how much he towered over me. The top of my head reached his chest but I could smell his aftershave. I think I almost whimpered.
“No, you’re not.”
