Summary
Sparrow Fisher is transforming. No longer dressed up in antiquated clothes and ideals, she is finally trying on her freedom.
Before she moves to New York City, she meets Ian Sterling, a musician Sparrow has dreamed about since she first saw him. The attraction is instant, but their relationship isn’t so simple.
Over a five year span, Sparrow and Ian run into each other in unusual places. Each time, Sparrow has to decide if she can trust him, if he feels the same for her, and finally, if love is really enough.
Excerpt
It’s a strange feeling after you’ve known someone so intimately, to maintain any sort of distance or to pretend that you don’t know their body better than you know your own. When Ian pulls me in and his body makes contact with mine, the currents pulse through us both. I know what he feels without looking at him. I know if I touch the small of his back like this or slightly rub my chest against his just so, it will drive him wild. He knows that my neck is sensitive and that I love it when he pulls my back against him. We try for about ten minutes to avoid these triggers, but the rhythm picks up in the room and the impulse is too strong. He swipes my hair off my neck first to say something in my ear, I rub my chest against his, lightly touch his back, he whips me around and presses me against the front of him.
Like dominoes falling one by one, our pretenses fall away and we dance.
Christine’s Review
I read the first chapter of True Love Story at the end of Dirty Red by Tarryn Fisher and immediately contacted the author to be included in any kind of promotions she was doing for her book! And I am SO glad I did! This is a beautiful story of how love conquers all – how sometimes you have to go through trials and tribulations but from that you grow and learn and you get a second chance in hope and love.
It has been a year, two months, and seventeen days since I last saw him. Two years, ten months, and five days since he broke my heart – well, since I knew that he had broken my heart. Technically, he began breaking my heart the moment I met him, five years, eleven months, and one day ago. I’ve traveled across the country to get away from him, changed my phone number so he couldn’t keep calling, had one botched relationship after another, all in an effort to forget.
And now I’m 1600 miles from home, waiting on another flight to head 500 miles further south, and he’s walking toward me in DFW airport.
And if that doesn’t suck you in, I don’t know what else to say! This is the story of Ian Sterling, a professional guitarist and Sparrow Fisher, an aspiring author. There is obviously something very agonizing that happened in their past together as they see each other for the first time that causes Sparrow so much pain while Ian is apologizing profusely and swearing his undying love for her. I immediately want to know what happens and am so happy that Willow goes back to when they first met five years ago to share their entire history with us.
We, the readers, are taken on their journey together; from their first meeting and being instantly captivated by one another to Ian giving Sparrow her nickname “Little Bird”, to them finally falling in love. I find myself smiling at the romance that is developing between them and am so happy to be experiencing and actually feeling their love and emotions. Yes, there are times of frustration between them as in any relationship as Ian, being a well-known musician disappears from her life for a while always to return to draw her back in. Willow’s writing is so spot on that we, the readers feel every happy moment and conversely every sad and agonizing moment. It pulled at my heart strings and kept me captivated throughout the entire book. It was a true roller coaster ride with all of the ups and downs but was a magnificent experience to go through.
Will this couple be able to survive the self-doubt and insecurities? Can they change and grow up? Will they ever get tired of running? And will they ever be able to truly risk their hearts to each other again?
Love is enough.
Love does conquer all.
Love really does always protect, trust, hope, persevere…
I’d even go as far as saying that love never fails. I finally believe that.
I have to mention that I loved Sparrow. Yes she was 9 years younger than Ian and at times it showed in her innocence but I adored her because she reminded me of me – you remember when you have that great big heartbreak when you were young? Despite the heartbreak you manage to thrive and live and still experience things and still try. I related to her…I loved her and I wanted this couple to work out so badly!
I highly recommend True Love Story for those looking to experience a wonderful heartwarming journey – yes there are ups and downs as in any relationship but the outcome is well worth the ride. Even writing this review now, days later, reminds me of the hope, love and romance that I felt as I read this book. The epilogue is flawless! Pick up this book today – you will not regret it. Thank you Willow Aster for an AMAZING read and I cannot wait to see what you have for us next!
