The moment she met Callen Hayes, eleven-year-old Jessica Creswell knew he was a broken prince. Her prince. They became each other's refuge, a safe and magical place far from their troubled lives. Until the day Callen kissed her--Jessica's first real, dreamy kiss—and then disappeared from her life without a word.
Years later, everyone knows who Callen Hayes is. Famous composer. Infamous bad boy. What no one knows is that Callen's music is now locked deep inside, trapped behind his own inner demons. It's only when he withdraws to France to drink his way through the darkness that Callen stumbles into the one person who makes the music return. Jessica. His Jessie. And she still tastes of fresh, sweet innocence . . . even as she sets his blood on fire.
But they don't belong in each other's worlds anymore. There are too many mistakes. Too many secrets. Too many lies. All they have is that instinctive longing, that need—and something that looks dangerously like love.
“I’m here to save you.”
I love friends to lovers stories especially when the main characters have known each other since childhood.
Jessica Creswell has always been looking for her Prince Charming and she finds it in Callen Hayes, a troubled broken boy. Jessica and Callen grew close playing in their pretend fairy tale land as kids until the day he disappeared without another word.
Fast forward years later and Jessica is living her dream in Paris, looking for a job translating historical documents when she runs into Callen, now a famous composer and known bad boy, at the bar she is working at. But he is no longer her broken prince but a troubled adult drinking and going through women and self-destructing.
Fate plays a role bringing these two back and forth in each others paths and sometimes you have no say or control in what life has in store for you.
I loved watching these two navigate their way back into each others lives almost picking up right where they left off so many years before. With such ease and care, they were able to pick up their friendship and the undeniable connection and attraction that has always been brewing beneath the surface. Callen is broken but with Jessie, he is able to find himself again because she calms him and is his beautiful muse.
Mia Sheridan has a way with words and this book was more than just words… it was about “living life fiercely and without regret” and about redemption for this poor man who has only wanted what he was always missing… love, faith, and family.
There were parts that gutted me. And there were parts where I wanted more. But overall, this was a beautiful story of love and truth and courage and I can’t wait to read more from this very talented author.
