Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled Series, returns with the first installment of the Legal Briefs Series.
As a DC defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don’t call him the Jury Charmer for nothing – with his southern drawl, disarming smile and captivating green eyes – he’s a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him and women want to be thoroughly cross examined by him.
Stanton’s a man with a plan. And for a while, life was going according to that plan.
Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart and mother of his beloved ten-year old daughter. Jenny is getting married — to someone who isn’t him.
That's definitely not part of the plan.
***Sofia Santos is a city raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn’t have time for relationships or distractions.
But when Stanton, her "friend with mind-blowing benefits" begs for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him – to The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Mississippi – to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves.
Her head tells her she's crazy...and her heart says something else entirely.
***What happens when you mix a one stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage and a gun-toting Nana?
The Bourbon flows, passions rise and even the best laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart.
Happy Release Day to Emma Chase and her new book OVERRULED!
Forget loving this book.. I fell IN LOVE with the whole cast! The Legal Briefs series introduces the reader to four up and coming DC based lawyers, Stanton, Sofia, Jake and Brent.
Ms. Chase proved yet again she is the Queen of Male POV and she reminded me why I love an Emma Chase book!
I am going to try to keep the review to only what is on the blurb…. Stanton Shaw is an upcoming hot shot DC defense attorney who since leaving his small home town for college and law school, has had his eye on partnership all while having a life plan that includes his childhood sweetheart Jenny and their daughter. Yes Stanton is a father to an adorable 10 year old named Presley.
The story had Stanton in a panic when he learns Jenny is marrying someone else. I so adored the use of young love in this book. Jenny and Stanton share a powerful connection as they share history and a child. But does that mean they should marry? Does that mean they are a forever love?
This book will really have you thinking about that. As Stanton reaches out to Sofia, his friend with benefits, for help.
In true Ms. Chase fashion Stanton was so fun to read… he had lines like this:
“These legs,” she admires aloud “They were meant to be kneeled at.”
I chuckled darkly. “Thanks for the compliment darlin’. But no more talkin’ now I have much more interesting uses for that mouth of yours.”
Ms. Chase does an outstanding job as this story develops from showing the difference between young love and forever love. As Stanton sees the power of the kind of love you can’t walk away from, the kind of love that grips your soul, I fell in complete love with him!
The end of this story had my heart racing and I love the use of Nana, Jenny’s grandmother. It pulled so many of the story elements together and had me grinning from ear to ear.
Stanton’s journey was so enjoyable to watch unfold but more than that, I am now dying for Jake’s story in Sustained (http://amzn.to/1JDvMZ5) and then Brent’s story in Appealed (http://amzn.to/1avVvXJ)
This is another must read series from a must read author!
P.S. the use of Drew Evans from Ms. Chase’s Tangled series was EPIC!
