Texas Pride tells the stories of Austin Grainger, a movie mega star who decides to leave it all behind for the quiet life on a Texas ranch in the town he left behind over 10 years ago, and one very sexy rancher – Kitt Kelly who is well educated and has returned home to save the family ranch after his father death.

Ms. Alexander does a wonderful job at laying out why both of these men have chosen to live their lifes as a lie and hide their sexuality.  These men collide when Austin purchases part of Kitt’s land. Kitt sold the land to help his sister pay for college but he had no idea who he sold it to or what that sale would bring into his life.

From the moment these two interact, the reader can feel the sexual tension. Kitt is flipping out at their first encounter while you experience Austin in awe of this pure male energy and amazing physical condition.

In that moment Austin knows what he wants and he wants Kitt. Austin is straight forward, avoids games, and invites Kitt to dinner and simply asks him.  Kitt tries to dismiss the question but Austin pushes and Kitt responds. Kitt starts by agreeing to sex only and is very clear as to why he can not be open about his sexuality.

Kitt’s reasons for hiding makes sense and will break your heart as sadly, he may be right. Coming out could cost this man all he knows, the only way he knows how to make a living, the only way he knows how to provide for his step-mom and sisters.

Austin and Kitt embark on a journey as ranch owners by day and lovers by night. Their time together will warm your heart, and although Kitt fights his feelings, it becomes obvious to him and the reader that he is experiencing feelings he has never felt before.

The reader learns these men shared 1 overlapping year in the same high school and each secretly crushed on the other. This was so endearing, it really makes you feel that at some deep level, these two men were made for each other.  Oh and the scenes where they each admit this to the other are adorable, yes I know it seems odd to say adorable about two big Texan men but it is the most appropriate word I can think of.

These two men develop a deep understanding of each other and a relationship that was so enjoyable to watch unfold. They have a comrodarary and working relationship by day and an easy way with each other at night that makes you feel as if they were meant to fit into each others lives.

But as Austin is ready to bare his soul to the world, Kitt’s world does not allow that kind of freedom. Unfortunately Austin’s past life comes to haunt them and the tabloids force Austin’s hand.

The outing of this couple is painful to read as at this point in the story you will want these men to live their lives together in peace with a happy they both lived so long without.

The local community’s reaction to two men felt real, embraced by some, some especially those close to Kitt hurt because of his need to lie and likely true to the community Kitt loses some people over it as well.

The twist Ms. Alexander adds at the end using Kitt’s Dad was something I throughly enjoyed.  It’s not often I am surprised a plot twist.  Especially one that is good for the main characters. Loved it!  It added a layer to the story that truly made the reader believe Kitt internalized that he deserved to be happy with Austin, the man who suits him so perfectly.

The end of this book was so well done! No, I will not tell you how it ends but I will say I had a smile from ear to ear.

I don’t normally read books about Cowboys, nothing against them it just is not a genre I tend to be drawn to, well Ms. Alexander blew me away. The imagery was so well done that I felt like I was in the middle of the ranch with these hard working men.

Kitt and Austin will stay with me for sometime as their story warmed my heart, so if you have read or are open to reading a M/M book I strongly suggest you come meet these strong alpha men that will endear themselves to your soul.
