Keep your friends close and your enemies closer...
I've hated Rachel Dawson since I was seven years old. My next door neighbor and number one sworn enemy, she's the reason why almost all of our childhood fights ended with me setting something of hers on fire. (Or, vice versa.)
She snitched on me when I broke curfew.
I snitched on her when she lied about having a boyfriend.
We went back and forth like this throughout high school, both vowing to never talk to each other again when we went off to college.
But that was until she showed up at my apartment during my senior year and asked me for a temporary place to stay. Until I realized just how much between us had changed, and the line I thought we'd never cross became harder and harder to ignore...
I love enemies to lovers kind of books and was happy to see a full-length novel from Whitney.
Rachel and Ethan have known each other since they were seven—meeting each other as new neighbors and that fateful day that Rachel pushed Ethan down the stairs which started years of hate and loathing.
But was it really?
After spending 3 years of semester at sea, Rachel is back on her college campus with none other than Mr. Popularity as her new roommate. Rachel and Ethan—while still seemingly hating each other—have kept in touch over the years via written letters about their lives, their relationships and their still apparent hate for each other.
Upon seeing each other, both characters notice the differences in each other—namely how attractive each have become—and while still wanting to hate each other, readers can’t help but notice how truly close these two characters are and how much they truly care for each other. How rather than enemies, they are really more of each other’s best friends.
While I love the enemies to lovers troupe and loved the chemistry between these characters and watching them fall for each other, I felt that some of this story felt a bit immature and almost over the top. I enjoyed the past and present telling of this story and how it kept me interested and entertained throughout my read and I REALLY enjoyed the characters. It’s been some time since I have enjoyed a Whitney G. book from cover to cover and am so happy to see that she is back and giving readers what they expect from her—well written books and characters to fall in love with.
