The journey that began in top-rated, best-selling Bright Side, continues ...

This is the story of Gus.
Losing himself.
Finding himself.
And healing along the way.

“ … but the honest-to-God truth is I don’t even know how to function anymore. Bright Side wasn’t only my best friend; she was like my other half ... the other half of my brain, the other half of my conscience, the other half of my sense of humor, the other half of my creativity, the other half of my heart. How do you go back to doing what you did before, when half of you is gone forever?”

Bright Side released in July of 2014 and I only got to read it at the end of 2014 and could not add it to my favorites list of 2014. Needless to say, it is one of my FAVORITES of 2015 with Gus being on the top of my most anticipated to read list. You can read my review for Bright Side here.

Well Kim Holden has done it again…as soon as Gus went live, I one clicked so fast and squeezed it into my already crazy reading schedule and I am so happy that I did…Ms. Holden has given us another epic journey; one that will live in my heart for a long time to come.

How does one move on from losing someone that they love?

Bright Side wasn’t only my best friend; she was like my other half…the other half of my brain, the other half of my conscience, the other half of my sense of humor, the other half of my creativity, the other half of my heart. How do you go back to doing what you did before, when half of you is gone forever?

My heart broke for Gus over and over; for his pain in losing his Bright Side, his best friend who was really so much more to him.

Gus is scrambling through life trying to find meaning after losing his beloved Bright Side and in the depths of despair, he hits rock bottom and makes so many poor choices.

Enter his new Personal Assistant, Scout Mackenzie (a.k.a. Impatient lol). Someone who gets on his every nerve, someone who makes assumptions about Gus that she really knows nothing about, someone who has her own scars and past hurts. Though they start off on the wrong foot, eventually a friendship grows. I have to mention here that I LOVE their post-it note messages to each other <3

With this new friendship and bond, Gus comes back to life a little everyday and he finds new meaning in his life and the peace he is searching for. Together they are two pieces of a puzzle that just fit; they help each other heal. Is there more to this relationship than what I am mentioning in my review???

Possibly…you will have to read it to find out 🙂

I will say this…Bright Side wrecked me; I was an emotional mess. Gus healed my broken heart. Gus’s book was even more touching, more heartwarming and it filled my heart and soul with light, laughter and immense love for these characters and this author. What I loved most about this book – well GUS himself! His mannerisms, what he says – he constantly put a smile on my face.

It was wonderful seeing our old friends from Bright Side – it was like seeing family and I adore each and every one of them.

My key takeaway from these books is this….that EPIC is the only way to live and I intend to do that every day.

I love Kim Holden’s books and I will read everything and anything she writes…these are books you do not want to miss. Thank you Kim for giving us books that give us readers complete book hangovers, characters to love and remember and stories that will stay in our hearts for a long time to come! <3 <3

About Kim Holden

Some of my favorite things:

Reading (YA or New Adult), writing (especially on a productive day), the two coolest guys on the planet (my husband and son), my bicycle (hand built by my husband), Facebook (it’s an addiction at this point), iced coffee (hazelnut from McDonalds), and music (LOVE the 1975, Dredg, the xx, Haim, Teenage Bottlerocket, Manchester Orchestra, and 30 Seconds to Mars).

I also love dreaming. Big. Writing a few years ago was an elusive dream until I grabbed a hold of it with both hands and refused to let go. Keep following YOUR dreams …
