Shh...Moms Talking: I am THANKFUL for a great book...

Shh…Moms Talking is a new monthly feature on our blog where we will discuss just about anything…topics that interest us that we want to share with you. It may be book related but doesn’t always have to be. If there is something you are interested to hear our opinion about, feel free to leave a comment below. We love to hear from readers! Please keep it positive – thank you!

Last month, Denise wrote a great post about Gay Romance. This month in honor of Thanksgiving, I wanted to write about why I am thankful for great books…

You know those books you read that totally captivate you and catapult you into the story where everyday regular life no longer exists?

This is why I read…as I am sure is one of the reasons many of you do too.

Thankfully I have always had a deep love for reading. Reading by my nightlight as a child when I was supposed to be in bed. Up until now, where I hardly watch any television because of my incessant need to dive into a good book. A book that will let me escape even if for a short time, the stresses and normal of everyday life.

Denise and I are moms. Denise has two children while I have three. Many a times people ask me how I even have time to read and honestly I can read just about anywhere. Whether it be in the car until I get car sick or if it’s paperback by the light of the bathroom in a hotel room so everyone else can enjoy their sleep.
There is nothing more exhilarating than being immersed in a good book.

Reading for the blog has its challenges. Prior to blogging, I read just for fun. It is still fun now especially getting to know some of my favorite authors and getting to know you, the readers. But with the constant pressure of having to stay on top of new releases and what’s out there so we can make recommendations to you, more often than not, I start feeling overwhelmed and sometimes just need to take a mini break. (I am speaking for myself here not Denise as I tend to not be able to say no! lol)

Despite these overwhelming feelings at times, I do it because I LOVE it and there is nothing I enjoy more. My husband always told me to find a hobby and THIS is it…reading.

Now sadly I don’t love everything I read. When I have a DNF, it puts me in a really bad mood. Unfortunately not every book works for everyone. Denise and I don’t post DNF’s on our blog simply because we feel that it doesn’t help the author and we would never want to put anyone’s hard work in a bad light.

However, when I find a true gem…a book that I completely fall head over heels in love with, I want to shout it out loud. I get excited, I want to tell my friends, I tell my husband (who is SO NOT a reader) and I feel like a giddy child because I just want to SING my praises to the world! Is that too much?? Well that’s how I feel and so much more because I can feel it in my heart and when that happens, I know that it is something special.

So I am thankful this month to a couple of authors who had real stand out books this year that made me think, and feel and more importantly who filled my heart with complete love and joy. Now there are many books that I have loved but here are some of my favorites from this year…

Love, In English and Love, In Spanish by Karina Halle

After I Do by Taylor Jenkins-Reid

53 Letters for My Lover and From His Lips by Leylah Attar

The Opportunist, Dirty Red and Thief AND Mud Vein by Tarryn Fisher

Here With Me by Heidi McLaughlin

Which begs me to ask you… I always like hearing what readers are loving especially if it is something I have not read before and have to add to my TBR…

What books are you thankful for this year?? Let’s share our love with the authors…it’s a time to be grateful 🙂

And as a thank you to you, the reader, for supporting us, these wonderful authors have given us a couple of giveaways so please make sure to enter the giveaway for a chance to win some of my favorite books…Good luck!!!

I have been thankful for several good books this year! Priceless and The Muse by Raine Miller are fabulous books! I love everything this lady writes! Becoming Calder and Finding Eden by Mia Sheridan blew me away. Black Lies by Alessandra Torre screwed with my head but it was so awesome! Puddle Jumping by Amber L. Johnson is such a sweet story. The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller by L.B. Simmons – incredible! There are so many but those are what stick with me right now.

Thanks for the post, I always enjoy reading about your thought process. Your blog is a daily visit for me because you have such honest reviews and I love finding new books from your recommendations. Besides some of your favorites above, one of my favorite books this year is Lovely Trigger by R.K. Lilley, this was such a heartbreakingly beautiful series and this book was a perfect conclusion for me. Another author that I always enjoy is Jill Shalvis and I adored all of her books released this year. One more series that I loved is the Here and Now series by Lexi Ryan.
