In the wake of tragedy, SEAL Mark Whitley rushed stateside to act as guardian to his sister’s three young children. But a conflicting will could give custody to someone else—someone Mark remembers as a too young, too hot, wild party boy. Even after six years, Mark can’t shake the memory of his close encounter with Isaiah James, or face up to what it says about his own sexuality.
Isaiah’s totally over the crush that made him proposition Mark all those years ago. In fact, he’s done with crushing on the wrong men altogether. For now, he’s throwing himself into proving he’s the best person to care for his cousin’s kids. But there’s no denying there’s something sexy about a big, tough military man with a baby in his arms.
As the legal details get sorted out, their long-buried attraction resurfaces, leading to intimate evenings after the kids are tucked in. A forever future is within reach for all of them, if only Mark can find the courage he needs to trust Isaiah with his secrets—and his heart.
I highly recommend Squared Away be read after On Point (Ben and Maddox’s love story) as Isaiah has a small part in that one and well Ben does come into a play a bit. Also it gives you so wonderful context to understand Mark …or as his SEAL team calls him Wizard!
Mark find himself coming home to be the guardian to this sister’s three children and face to face with party boy (yes there is some awesome backstory here) Isaiah who is the children’s cousin and adored them.
Ms Albert’s ability to craft characters that pulls at the readers hearts continues to impress him. Wizard taught me something, I now know what demisexual or a grey ace means. Experiencing Mark’s journey to accept himself kept me enthralled with this story; add to that the fact that sex is not the focus but the deep bonds these men develop and well this is a love story I will never forget.
The reader can feel that these men belong together and that the children belong with them. With loss comes a whole host of other emotions and man is this book laced with them along with outstanding moment of humor and banter that make this book well truly OUTSTANDING.
Thank you so much for Mark and Isaiah’s story … it was both touching and educational. Mark’s journey was like nothing I have ever read before!
Annabeth Albert’s Out of Uniform series made a great first read in the genre… it also makes a great for Pride Month 🌈
