Synopsis

Best Laid Plans is the debut book from author Tamara Mataya. It’s a fun, quick read, and it was sizzling HOT, but it also gives the reader a purposeful plot. That being said, this book also dealt with the real problem of bullying, and did so in a superb manner. It really brought me right back to high school, and had my heart breaking for these two characters.
After 10 years apart, Jayne and Malcolm meet again. Both have changed their names and have grown in the time they’ve been out of school. Dylan now Malcolm since he changed his name, has come up with a simple plan to get revenge on one of the people that he blames his terrible high school years on. His plan sounds easy enough, he would seduce her, make her fall in love with him, and then break her heart. The her in this equation, Jayne, or Jane as she spelled it back in high school. Both are successful now, and she doesn’t even realize it’s the boy from back in high school when they meet up again, years later, but he definitely recognizes her.
Even with both of them being successful, Malcolm and Jayne still carry around emotional scars from their school days. But seducing Jayne will lead to feelings that weren’t supposed to happen in his plans. Jayne has decided that she won’t be tied to one man, and has sworn off relationships, but Malcolm has her thinking twice. Things will come full circle, when they both get invites to their Ten Year High School Reunion, and both will have to decide what if any real feelings there are.
If you’ve ever been bullied, this story will bring those feelings flooding back, that part of the plot was written very well. I do have to say, some of the sex in this book, and there was a lot, felt repetitive. I also felt a little lost in the first chapter, and the ending was a bit rushed, which kept this book from being a 5 Star book for me. I adored storyline that this book had, and am hoping for more of Malcolm and Jayne, as well as other books from Ms. Mataya in the future!

About the Author
Tamara Mataya is currently a librarian; she lurked there for so long recommending books to patrons and shushing people, that she suspects they only hired her so it would be less creepy. Now she’s armed with a name tag, and a thin veneer of credibility. She’s also a musician with synaesthesia – which isn’t an issue until someone plays a wrong note, which makes her want to squirm inside out. It makes for a good live show.
