Brent Weyland was the life of the party until an injury ended his hockey career. Now he’s retreated alone to a lakefront house, trying to make sense of a life and body that don’t feel like his anymore.

Jon Norquist was happily married right up until he wasn’t. Now a single father in his forties, he’s trying to figure out what comes next. In the meantime, he pours his heartache and regret into the lyrics he sings for the wine bar crowd a couple of nights a week.

When a friend coaxes Brent out for a night of wine and music, he puts Brent and Jon on a collision course. Their chemistry is instantaneous. Jon gives Brent’s battered body a much-needed remedial lesson in pleasure. And Brent gives Jon a reason to smile again.

Multiple reasons, actually. Neither man wants anything serious, but love has a habit of showing up whether it’s welcome or not. No matter how hard they try, the two can’t help having feelings for each other, even as life continues to throw them curveballs.

But they’ve both got baggage to unpack and hurt to move past, and if they can’t leave their pasts in the past, they might just miss out on an amazing future.

Aftermath had me currently ENGROSSED from the opening lines…..  Jon and Brent’s is such a powerful one, it reminds the reader of the power of touch and connection and intimacy… and the fear of being vulnerable enough after heartache to allow all of that to even happen!
The title is this book is so very perfect as we find Brent in the aftermath of an accident that cost him his hockey career and has him learning to live with chronic pain and Jon in the aftermath of a divorce learning to craft a new life a single Dad to his 10-year-old son, Cody.
This book took me some time from reading to review…..why well… there was a piece of the story that just didn’t sit well for me …. but I do think some of that is a personal experience and in the end that author MADE me feel yet again something that Witt should be praised for.
Witt is an author that is able to deliver the reader flawed characters with deep wounds all while engaging the reader and never taking the easy way out when writing.
See these men push past their prior experiences, experiencing these men decide they want each other as they are, and being a part of these men crafting a happy that is theirs is a testament to this author’s talent! A truly rare talent that goes beyond man meets man, men have s*x… men live perfect happily ever after.

The Vino and Veritas series is truly EPIC; it is a series of interconnected standalone where the common thread is an inclusive wine bar and book store.
