rom the outside looking in, I live a charmed life: hockey legend for a father, my own promising future in the league, a great family, awesome friends.
It’s not untrue, but it’s not quite that simple either.
My dad’s advice has always been to make hockey my number-one priority—at least until I make it to the pros. So, going into my senior year of college, I have a plan. I’ll put in the effort required to pass my classes, play hockey like my life depends on it, and avoid relationships. All I have to do is stay focused on the end game.
It should be easy.
But when a woman literally floats into my dock, just before summer ends and my senior year begins, I can’t resist one last hookup. What harm could a one-night stand do? It’s not like we even exchanged numbers.
Everything is fine until I run into her on campus.
It’s a big school. I should be able to avoid her.
Except she happens to be in my class.
And she’s not a student.
She’s my professor.
Bitter Sweet Heart by H. Hunting (Helena Hunting) is 5 stars MUST READ story!
This is a book that tells a story … a beautifully brilliant, powerful story about love and pain; trauma and forgiveness, and discovering your truth while finding your place in the world
The coffee mug in this photo could not have said it better… as this is a book about writing your own story, both for Hunting as an author and Maverick as a character.
The story told is so brilliant it completely transcends any trope you try to put it in; hockey (sports) romance, age gap, college based none of that matters, what matter is that they read and become transfixed with Maverick and Clover.
My one struggle… how to say READ THIS BOOK and relay my LOVE OF the story without running the story… the reader really needs to experience it as Hunting tells it.
The character development in this book was amazing, the family dynamic powerful, and the dailogue engaging. Oh and the love… well the attraction between Mav and Clover bleeds off the pages!
I want to thank the author for keeping it real… Mav’s journey is likely not what people expect; heck it is not what he would have expected of himself three years prior and that… that made this book next level special!
If you have not read it already I highly recommend reading Little Lies; this is the story of Mav’s sister Lavender and his best friend Kodiak… a book that is SO MUCH more than a “brother’s best friend” book. This book is an all-time Top Pick of Mine!
I am so excited for BJ’s story in Shattered Hearts
I was “late” to the Helena game, as I found her amazing voice through the All In Series… so I am proof you did NOT need to read the Pucked Series to love, understand and appreciate Maverick’s story.. over Lavender’s for that matter!
