If I can keep Hush Note’s leading guitarist, Nixon Winters, on the straight and narrow for the next six months, I’ll finally get my own band to manage—assuming we don’t kill each other first.

The egotistical, irritating rock star is fresh out of rehab, but it’s obvious his demons followed him home—and now I’m sleeping down the hall. I’ve watched him self-destruct every summer, and with album deadlines and tour dates looming, I can’t let it happen again. My career is in his hands.

But tattoos can’t cover every scar, and I’m starting to see through his trademark, irresistible charm to the damage beneath.

Everyone wants the rock star.
I’m falling for the man.

If he doesn’t let me in,
he’ll never break the cycle—
And when these six months are up,
I might be the one left broken.

Muses and Melodies by Rebecca Yarros is an amazing story. This is a raw and powerful look at the deep-seated wounds of Nixon’s addiction and a real feel journey through recovery.

Hush Note’s leading guitarist, Nixon Winters has decided he needs to get sober…. in an attempt to find a place to move forward he escapes to Zoe Shannon’s hometown. Zoe is the assistant to the Hush Notes’ business manager so her job, while they are away, is to “take care” of Nixon.

Watching Nixon in Zoe’s hometown was heartwarming… you can feel him coming to life….opening up just a bit.

Zoe and Nixon start to connect and pulls the reader in.. but you still feel that barrier, that piece of himself Nixon can’t seem to open up… and I have to say the how this resolves made this book pure magic; this piece of the story, the vivid imaginary and the use of the whole cast in the book to move this plot piece forward highlights Yarros genius.

Love is an amazing thing…. but love isn’t the cure for addiction and the author respect for this blew me away… Nix’s recovery isn’t without hurdles and he isn’t always willing to open the wounds of the past to get to his healing but as this unfolds you know he will be OK.

Nixon’s wounds bleed off the page as your heart aches for him. Nixon’s prior behavior and the atmosphere of the tour are things he learns is a trigger and it was wonderful as this story moved forward to watch this character develop and grow and want to be healthy.

The Hush Notes series is one of my Top Reads of the Year, this character-driven series contained three stories that blew me away as they transcended their tropes and captured by heart.

Lies and Lullabies by Sarina Bowen stars the lead singer Jonah and Rifts and Refrains from Devney Perry is the story of drummer Quinn.

This epilogue is beyond powerful and a great end to what is now one of the top rock stars series ever!

About Rebecca Yarros

Rebecca Yarros is a hopeless romantic and lover of all things chocolate, coffee, and Paleo. In addition to being a mom, military wife, and blogger, she can never choose between Young Adult and New Adult fiction, so she writes both. She’s a graduate of Troy University, where she studied European history and English, but still holds out hope for an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. Her blog, The Only Girl Among Boys, has been voted the Top Military Mom Blog the last two years, and celebrates the complex issues surrounding the military life she adores.

When she’s not writing, she’s tying on hockey skates for her kids, or sneaking in some guitar time. She is madly in love with her army-aviator husband of eleven years, and they’re currently stationed in Upstate NY with their gaggle of rambunctious kiddos and snoring English Bulldog, but she would always rather be home in Colorado.

Rebecca is represented by Jamie Bodnar Drowley of Inklings Literary.
