I fell for Connor Drake. I didn’t want to; I fought against it, but I fell in love with him anyway. With his words. With his poetry. With him. The gentleness and beauty of his soul that speaks directly to mine. He writes as if he can feel my heart, hear its cadence and compose the exact right lyrics to accompany every beat and flow.

I’m in love with Connor…so why do I feel an inexplicable pull to his best friend, Weston? Grouchy, sullen, brooding Weston Turner, who could cut you down with a look. Fiercely intelligent with a razor sharp wit and acid tongue, he’s the exact opposite of Connor in every way, and yet there’s electricity in the air between us. The thorny barbs Weston wraps around himself can’t keep me away.

But the more time I spend with these men, the more tangled and confused my emotions become. When they both sign up for the Army Reserves during a time of increasing strife in the Middle East, I fear I’ll never unravel my own heart that sometimes feels as if it will tear straight down the middle…for both of them.

**********
Bring Down the Stars is an emotional, angst-filled novel of unrequited love by bestselling author, Emma Scott, and is inspired by the classic tale, Cyrano de Bergerac. (Roxanne) It is Book I in the Beautiful Hearts Duet, coming this summer. Book II, Long Live the Beautiful Hearts, to be released a few weeks later. THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL LOVE TRIANGLE #confusedhearts #notamenage

This is the first book I have read by Emma Scott and will certainly not be my last. This book was recommended to me by a number of people whose opinion I trust implicitly and I couldn’t wait to dive right into it. Being that this was another book I was sneaking onto my TBR, I was happy to have the time to read Bring Down the Stars.

I’ll be honest… while this book was deeply emotional, wrecking havoc on my heart and mind, I had a hard time connecting to the characters right from the get-go. I wanted desperately to love everything from the beginning and I struggled. I felt like I was missing something between them… I didn’t feel their connection as much as I wanted to.

I love, love, LOVE angst and love triangles so this book was right up my alley. But I was mad. Mad at some of the choices, mad about some of the bad decisions, just plain mad. And maybe because in my mind, there was always a clear “winner” of the girl and it was not happening the way that I wanted it to happen.

Regardless of that, the story ended up putting me through the wringer. The second half of the book really picked up for me and gave me everything I need from a good book. Emma Scott made me want, she made me need, she made me fall in love with these characters that by the time I got to the end, OMG I WANTED MORE, I NEEDED MORE.

All of these characters… from Weston to Connor to Autumn… they all deserve a happily ever after, they all deserve love.

Emma Scott is a new author to me and she broke my heart… truly. But in a good way because I am still thinking about the book and wanting more of their story. And THAT is what makes an author a damn good author.. the ability to make your readers crazy with emotions while still craving more. And I want all the words.

So yes, while some things didn’t work for me, it was perfect for the story because it elicited all the emotions and craziness that the author likely intended and I can’t wait to read book 2… hopefully we don’t have too long to wait. Hopefully the connection I want is more in Book 2.
