New Orleans, a city of mystery and magic, of secrets and dreams, and a history drenched in both love and the deepest of heartache.

When ballet dancer Clara Campbell arrives in New Orleans, lonely and homesick, she is immediately captivated by the story of Windisle Plantation and the tragic tale that is said to have transpired beyond its gate. Legend has it that it is abandoned by all living souls, but to Clara’s great surprise, it is not a ghost she hears through the stone wall surrounding the property, but a flesh and blood man. A scarred stranger with a pain deeper and darker than the churning waters of the Mississippi river that flows beside his self-imposed prison.

The ruined man behind the wall hides himself from the world. The last thing he expects is to find a friend in the selfless girl who speaks to him through the cracks in the rock. The girl who keeps returning week after week. The girl who makes him wish for things he has long since given up on. The girl who strikes both fear and hope within his wounded heart. But there can be no future for them, no life beyond Windisle, for no one knows better than him that monsters only live in the dark.

The Wish Collector is the story of shame and triumph, of loneliness and love, and the miracle of two hearts connecting despite the strongest of barriers between them.

I love Mia Sheridan’s words and I recommend The Wish Collector for readers looking for something uniquely different in their romance. This story has it all—mystery, intrigue, heartfelt emotions that will touch your soul, and a true love that is epically beautiful in every way—a love that transcends time. The Wish Collector is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast coupled with the Phantom of the Opera and was SO well done.

Told in dual POVs and also from different time periods (the 1860s and present day) in New Orleans, this story follows the love story of two very different couples.

Clara Campbell is a ballet dancer with the New Orleans ballet and is feeling lonely in her new hometown until she learns about the tragic story of the Windisle Plantation and the wishes that people leave at its wall. She goes to the wall to leave her own wish and rather than something that she selfishly wishes for herself, she wants to help solve the mystery behind the ghosts that still reside at the plantation. And much to her surprise, she learns that someone still lives there though he never shows his face—Jonah Chamberlain, the damaged man who hides from the world, punishing himself for his past, someone who suffers so much that my heart just broke for him time and time again.

The two develop an unlikely friendship—Jonah with all of his brooding and need to be alone in his self-imposed prison is drawn to Clara’s light, her honesty, her kindness, her unselfishness, her strength to not give up. And Clara is drawn to the man—the mystery behind him, his voice and her need to want to save him—to help him live without the mask and to experience love and life to the fullest.

There were so many things to love about this story. I loved the past chapters and learning what it was like to live in the 1860s at the plantation and what it was like to be in love in that time especially when you came from two different backgrounds. I loved even more the connection that the past had to the present and I wanted to devour this book to discover the mystery. I loved the fairy tale aspect combined with some of mystical magic which added a different element to the story. And even more so, I loved the forgiveness, the redemption, the full circle this story came to which left me with a huge smile on my face at the end because everything was as it should be…

I love original stories and this one was that and so much more. This story truly touched my heart. Readers who loved Archer’s Voice, who love the beauty of Sheridan’s words should pick up The Wish Collector as soon as possible. This is another must read from a very talented author who writes epically beautiful stories about love and those deserving of such a beautiful gift as being loved by someone who gives you strength and courage and who loves you for everything you are on the inside and out. <3
