Sometimes you fall for Mr. Right. And sometimes for Mr. Right Now…

May
Did you hear the one about the girl who walks into a bar and catches her live-in lover kissing someone else? No? You’re the only one in town who missed it.

Luckily Alec is there to wrap me up in strong arms and carry me out the door before things get too ugly. And that’s not all Alec is good at. Our unexpected chemistry makes him the perfect rebound guy.

Alec
I should know better than to hook up with my rival’s little sister, but the fiery look in May’s eyes really turns my crank. She needs cheering up, and I’m just the guy for the job.

It’s not like I’ll fall in love. Not even after a string of scorching hot trysts, and the realization that we’re good at the same things: wild nights and familial disappointment. I don’t do love, never have, never will. So this is the perfect arrangement, for both of us.

Nobody would approve, but nobody has to know…

I was so excited to return to Vermont in this newest book in Sarina Bowen’s True North Series.

I adored Speakeasy both May and Alec were compelling characters.  May is strong a heroine who despite past troubles is not looking for a man to fix her.. actually when she stumbles into Alec she really really really isn’t looking for a man at all.

And I think that is so much of what I loved about this book; neither character was looking for love, neither was looking for anything really.  But what they find in each other; what they discovered, the connection the forged was so very different than anything either had experiences in the past.

Speaking of past; this series is set in small town Vermont so both knew of each other; May knew of Alec’s “reputation” and the author did an outstanding job of making it crystal clear May was it for Alec! Despite Alec not liking May’s brother, Alec wants May and is willing to find a way to put the past in the past. Side note the were this relationship the one between Alec and May’s brother Griff gets to makes this book that much better.

I did not put this book down… even when I got car sick, I kept reading… I was so vested in May and Alec, I wanted them to find their happy. I knew they belonged together and I was so desperate to see them open up about their feelings to both each other and those around them.

I adored the craft beer element in this book, I also loved how it showed the challenges of small business ownership; this part really touched me and I thought showed how owning a business effects all areas of your life.

The way May’s past and Alec’s profession and Griff and the future all weave together could not have been more perfect!

I must add the way the name of the book plays into the story was epic!

If you have not read Ms Bowen’s True North Series, I highly recommend it as a summer binge read. The series offers books that will elicit a wide range of emotions from the readers and it provides a cast that will touch your heart!
