It’s a tale as old as time: the bad boy meets the good girl. He makes a daring proposition. Then the boy gets a mysterious head injury and loses a year of his life…

The first time I meet Rickie, I don’t know what to make of him. The second time we meet, he doesn’t remember the six hours we spent together. Or standing me up afterward.

I’m not the same, either. I’ve got secrets. I’ve told lies. Bad boys aren’t my type, anyway. Even the ones with troubled gray eyes.

But now we’re roommates. Cue the awkward moments in the hallway when he’s wearing only a towel and a smile. He’s determined to win me over, and his talented hands weaken my resolve.

It’s all fun and games until my past rears its ugly head and his secrets come to light, shaking our fragile connection, maybe even breaking it…

Note: this is Daphne Shipley's story. Contents include Vermonty ice cream flavors, nerdy awkwardness, tattoos, and a playboy grandpa.

Waylaid by Sarina Bowen was a truly amazing story…. this book is more than a love story… as a matter of fact I think it is more of work of art with a love story written into it.

I am struggling to write this review…not for LACK of LOVE of this story… but because I do not want to give any part of this story away….
From the moment I caught a glimpse of Ricky in a prior book in the series… Bowen had me wanting to know more… and WOW… just WOW… the author hints there was a story behind this young man and his ink… but WOW…. his story is so much more than I could have even imagined.
Bowen addresses both timely and sensitive topics with care and sensitivity all while pulling at the readers’ heart and soul as Daphne and Rickie face pasts that are clouding their future.
Bowen has become a go-to author for me, one who I know I can count on for character-driven stories rich with dialogue and so much more than boy meets girl.
As Waylaid develops I feel further and further into the Shipley world and my heart filled with remembering watching each family member fall in love, I HIGHLY recommend the True North series and I am so excited for what is next from this small town in Vermont!
The how Rickie and Daphne heal from the past… the decision to rebuild and move forward and what they find in each other all came together in a 5 star read that will sit with me for some time!
Side note if you are a reader of this series and love this small town… I recommend the Spin off series set in this Universe….   Veritas and Vino – I have read a number of these m/m and you will see at least one on my Top 10 list this year!
